The Full form of SSC is Staff Selection Commission (SCC)
Staff Selection Commission (SCC)
SSC stands for Staff Selection Commission. It is an organization which conducts examinations to recruit staffs for different posts in various offices, departments and ministries of the Government of India. The SSC is responsible for recruiting the candidates in Group “B” and Group “C” posts of Central Government organizations. Their functions also involves : to hold departmental examination for promotion, making amendments and rules for the examinations and preparing scheme for recruitment and other govt. ordered functions.
The formation or setup of the Commission
A commission was constituted on 4th November in the year 1975, which was called the Subordinate Service Commission. It was tasked after suggesting reforms for the organization. It was then re-designated as Staff Selection Commission in September 1977. On 1 June 1999, the SSC or Staff Selection Commission came into existence.
The commission is directed by a Chairman. Two of the members and a secretary-cum-controller of the examinations also, assist the chairman. Besides the secretary and the two members, the commission compromises of a director, a deputy secretary, two joint directors, a deputy secretary, two joint directors four deputy directors, nine under secretaries, a finance and budget officer and others.
Functions of SSC
• To make recruitments to,
i) All Group “B” posts in the various departments or ministries of the Govt. of India and their subordinate offices who provide the maximum pay scale of 10,500 or below.
ii) All non-technical Group “C” posts in several departments or ministries of the Govt. of India, except the posts which are specifically exempt from the purview of the SSC.
• To conduct examinations and interviews when required for the recruitments to the posts within the purview. The examinations will be held at different centers and the successful candidates will be posted to the extent possible, in their home state or region.
• To hold open competitive examinations for recruitments of the posts such as lower division clerk, stenographers, railway board secretariat clerical services, assistants, inspector of Central Excise, junior engineer etc.
• The SSC also holds departmental examination for promotion.
• It conducts periodical typewriting tests in both Hindi and English.
• The Commission also prepares schemes for the recruitment to all Group “B” posts.
• They also perform other functions which is entrusted to the SSC by the Central Govt. from time to time.
Eligibility as per age :
• The candidate applying for SSC must not be less than 18 year of age.
• The upper age limit of the candidate must be 32 years.
• For some posts, the candidate’s lower and upper age limit may vary.
• The candidate’s age as present in the 10/12th certificates will be considered.
Eligibility as per Nationality
The eligibility criteria as per nationality mandates a candidate to be a resident only to the states mentioned below. The candidates belonging to these particular states will be eligible to apply for the SSC examination. A candidate must fulfill one of these following conditions,
• The candidate must be of an Indian citizenship.
• He/she must be a subject of Nepal/Bhutan.
• The candidates who are Tibetan refugees who moved to India before 1962, with an intention of settling down permanently in India.
• The candidate must be a person with Indian origin who has migrated to India from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia Ethiopia ,Zaire, Malawi and Vietnam with a intention to settle down in India.
Eligibility as per Educational Qualification
The education qualification for SSC examination may vary according to each post,
• The candidate must complete his/her graduation from a renowned University or institution.
• The candidate must have studied mathematics/statistics/economics as an elective or complete subject.
Schedules and procedures of SSC
SSC or the Staff Selection Commission conducts examinations annually at the national level by the Central Board of Secondary Education. The syllabus or curriculum is determined by each examination board. In order to apply for this examination, the candidate must be enrolled in a senior secondary school at either the state or the central level.

• SSC Full Form 10th class
SSC stands for secondary school certificate. The public examination “Dakhil”, which is conducted in countries such as India, Bangladesh and Pakistan in madrasah education system. This is setup by the
educational boards for the successful completion of the secondary education examinations in these countries. Basically, the students of 10th grade are the ones who appear for the SSC examination. The GCSE in England and the first two years of High school in the United States are the equivalent exams of SSC.
• SSC Full Form Maharashtra
The SSC, which is the secondary school certificate is conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) for the students of grade 10. The MSBSHSE is responsible for setting the syllabus and curriculum, the time table, study materials etc. for the students. The board provides a regular and full fledged preparation with practice sessions to the students appearing for the board exam.
• Bihar SSC Full Form
BSSC stands for Bihar staff selection commission. It is an organization which conducts state government exams and recruits qualified candidates. BSSC is an apex body which is responsible in conducting exams for different posts within the state.
• SSC Full Form Gujarat
GSEB stands for Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, is a government belonging to Gujarat body. Determining the administrative, cognitive, policy-related and intellectual direction of the educational system takes are the responsibilities of the GSEB. On the basis of Gujarat Secondary Education Act 1972', the board was constituted.
